With the passage of a levy the Administration was able to begin operation of AM 1640.

1640 is a low power radio station designed to be heard within the city limits of Strongsville.

1640 AM is to provide information and urgent information about the City of Strongsville.

The Administration has a Communications Director. Staff is available to program Radio 1640.

If the Administration, including the Police and Fire Departments want the citizens of Strongsville to get into the habit of "tuning in to 1640 AM for emergency information,"  the Administration and Council must get us into the habit of "tuning in to 1640 for the "good news" about Strongsville.

A regular 24 hour program of information, broken into 15 minute segments, including reports on the activities of community organizations, interviews with civic leaders, announcement of issues related to Seniors and audio presentations of City Council meetings should be broadcast.

The Director of Communications and Technology could arrange for 1640's daily broadcast schedule to be run during the "print announcement" time on Channel 21, the Government Channel viewed on the the various cable networks in our city.

What better way, Monday through Friday, for those who slowly travel out of the city to their jobs and back into the city as they return home to get the "Strongsville news of the day" by listening to 1640 AM on their radio dial.

Update: Mr. Zubek presented "edited remarks" regarding 1640 AM at the Counci meeting of February 20, 2008.

As I monitored Radio 1640 between February 11, 2008 and February 18, 2008 what was heard on a regular bases was an ad for the purchase of Recreation memberships.

No information was provided on the schedule of Council Committee meetings, nor was information provided on the schedule for the various Administration committee meetings to be held within the next week. Community organization activities and items of interest to our Senior community were absent.

The Administration and the Council, Economic Development and Technology, Committee  chaired by Mike Daymut with Vice Chairman, Ray Haseley and Member Ken Dooner must do a better job of overseeing this important communication tool.
